Your Voice Matters
Together, we’re transforming how Canada makes decisions. When women and gender-diverse people speak up, everyone benefits. Yet today, less than 30% of voices in Canadian media belong to women. We’re changing that.

Women and gender-diverse people make up more than half of Canada’s population. But their perspectives are often missing from news stories, boardrooms, and policy discussions. This isn’t just about fairness—it affects the decisions that shape all our lives.

Our team brings together passionate advocates, experienced facilitators, and committed change-makers from across the country. From our staff to our board members and volunteers, we’re united by one goal: women and gender-diverse people influence every decision that affects them
Founded in 1980 as MediaWatch (later Media Action), our organization began by monitoring how women were portrayed in media.
In 2010, Shari Graydon, columnist, advocate and former chair of the organization’s board, launched Informed Opinions as a project of MediaWatch to equip women with the skills and confidence to shape public discourse. In 2019, we officially changed the name to Informed Opinions, reflecting our broader mission to amplify underrepresented voices.

Informed Perspectives acknowledges that the land we live and work on is the homeland of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, who have resided here for millennia. We also recognize the genocidal policies implemented against Indigenous peoples by settlers and many elected governments acting on citizens’ behalf. We profoundly regret that historical and contemporary policies continue to disenfranchise Indigenous communities. We commit to ongoing education and reconciliation and to implementing measures in the context of our work that will help address the intergenerational trauma still playing out in this country.
